We are proud to have been part of the Council's drive towards providing sustainable housing for local residents on this National flagship dementia care scheme - one of the first projects created by the new Housing Services Dept of Bournemouth Borough Council. The unit provides state-of-the-art technology for the care of residents, allowing independent living with exceptionally close safety and lifestyle trend monitoring, via smart metering. All properties comply with the RIBA Assisted Living Guide, and this was the first building to include these design criteria.
Each of the 20 flats has the benefit of an integrated hub, comprising a set-top box linked to the internet, allowing family members to send information, messages and prompts to the TV screens of the resident. The home hub is also able to receive medical information for residents, to be relayed directly to the Medical Practitioner.
The site is accessed via a shared drive with other local vulnerable residents, and therefore traffic management and close liaison with carers was an essential part of our Site Manager's daily activities.
The two-storey structure is provided with many renewable energy features (solar and photo voltaic panels, together with an air source heat pump). It has achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and BREEAM Excellent ratings.
