This project comprised the construction of a new Lecture Theatre of contemporary timber framed design, emphasising an environmental approach. The glulam structural frame can be readily expanded; the end wall is constructed to allow it to be easily detached from the structure and repositioned to enable easy extensions, maintaining a cohesive appearance. The roof is angled toward the south to maximise the area available for solar panels, with north facing high level windows.
The design of the building allowed for a short construction period, thereby minimising disruption to the daily activities of the school, and was delivered by our General Works Department, on time and to the Client's original budget.
As an outstanding school and a National Teaching Academy we wanted to create a building with a high quality innovative design to support our work in improving the learner experience... We wanted to provide an 'intelligent building', responsive and flexible - one that places the learner experience first. We have certainly achieved that in all respects. The Lecture Hall will provide a very special resource for current and prospective students, staff and wider community groups. It really does have the 'wow' factor.Chris Edwards, Headteacher, Ringwood School
